Tips for the Womanhood — Prevention and cure for PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. The signs and symptoms of PCOS may vary. Irregular periods, no menstrual cycle for more than 40 days, very high bleeding, elevated levels of male hormone may result in physical signs, such as excess facial and body hair (hirsutism), and occasionally severe acne and male-pattern baldness.

Immediately implement the following practices in your lifestyle:

  1. Women with PCOS should always give importance to physical activities. At least 150 minutes of exercises or workouts every week can cure or reduce the effects of PCOS. Maintain the ideal body weight.

2. PCOS weight loss diet should not contain unhealthy foods including junk foods, fried items, and foods that contain bad fats and bad carbohydrates. control yourself while consuming sweets and desserts since it increases blood sugar levels and can lead to diabetes.

3. Ensure yourself to have sufficient sleep. It has been proven that those who are sleep-deprived will have a tendency to overeat the following day. This will make them obese or overweight. Ultimately, these women may be affected by PCOS.

4. Women affected by PCOS should learn to manage their stress levels. Stress is another factor that may increase insulin resistance and cause type 2 diabetes. Experts suggest yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises for managing stress levels.

5. Most importantly, these women should never lose their self-confidence. The medical world has been coming out with several mind-blowing innovations and hence, they can get good treatment for their PCOS problem. These treatments will get excellent results if they have confidence or faith in themselves and stick to PCOS treatment diet as advised by their doctors.

Preferred food menu for PCOS:

  1. Vegetables and fruits — All types of vegetables and fruits contain fiber which helps to reduce sugars and weight. Taking more fiber will help to reduce weight and normalize the menstrual cycle.
  2. Pulses and Legumes — High protein can reverse the PCOS. Take at least 3 to 4 servings of dals and legumes like Rajma, Channa, Chola, Kidney beans, and sprouts.
  3. Green tea — Green tea is highly antioxidant and increases metabolism. 2 to 3 cups of green tea is recommended per day.
  4. Complex Carbohydrates — Replace your rice with millets, ragi, bajra, and jowar as it has more fiber which helps to reduce the effects of PCOS

Food items to be avoided during PCOS:

  1. Sugars — Sweets, desserts should be avoided as it can lead to high blood sugars. Natural sweeteners like dates and figs can be taken.
  2. Starch — Rice, Sago, and potato should be avoided.
  3. Packed food, fruit juices, alcohol, and aerated drinks.
  4. Caffeine — Caffeine can aggravate PCOS. So better to avoid coffee.
